| THOUGHTBARN IS: Robert Gay / Le Boss Lucy Begg / La Boss Thoughtbarn was launched in 2006 by Robert after working for several notable architectural practices including Burton Baldridge in Austin, Adjaye Associates in London and Roth Sheppard in Denver. Lucy joined in 2010 as Co-Director, after time spent in the offices of KRDB, Pollen Architecture and non-profit Design Build Alliance in Austin, and Eldridge Smerin and Simon Conder in London. Robert and Lucy’s first collaboration together was in 2003 at the Rural Studio in Alabama, where they designed and built Ola Mae's Porch, an award-winning, low-cost mobile home addition. Robert has an M.Arch from UT Austin ('05) and a B.Arch from Auburn University ('00). He received an overall excellence prize for his thesis work on digital fabrication and participatory building systems and was a lead research member for the Plastics in Architecture project conducted by architecture professor Billie Faircloth. He has also taught graduate and undergraduate design studios at UT and is a regular visiting critic. Lucy has an M.Arch from UC Berkeley ('07) and a B.Arch from Cambridge University ('01). In 2006, she was awarded the Branner Travelling Fellowship, enabling her to spend a year working with architects around the globe innovating with public participation methods. In 2010 she completed a year-long series of workshops in Nonprofit Leadership and Management at Austin Community College. She also serves on the board of Pecha Kucha Austin. Thoughtbarn works with a diverse group of collaborators including our partner business BBIITT which offers design and production services using digital fabrication technologies.
